image  Before the concert comes the rehearsal. Before the rehearsal, the musicians begin the age old ritual of warming up instruments, checking reeds, playing through passages, all in preparation for the conductor to come on stage to bring seventy musicians to a cohesive understanding of the music to be performed. The seventy musicians then become as one.
I love this time before the rehearsal, the beautiful cacophony of sound of each individual player working alone, and then becoming a unified group at the sounding of the tuning pitch. It never gets old, no matter how many rehearsals or concerts I play. Magic always happens on stage.
